Quietude

It's Friday evening, and math grad student Alex Krumpl has settled down to work on a proof in peace and quiet, safe in the knowledge that his housemates have left for a night of riotous partying, thankfully elsewhere. Or so he thinks—but it turns out that rambunctious Claire has stayed behind. A conversation ensues, and Alex finds that her friend Beth has talked. And Claire is intrigued.
