Social and cultural anthropology

The XI INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS OF NUTRITION - XI ICN - pro- moted by the INTERNATIONAL UNION OF NUTRITIONAL SCIENCES - IUNS -, and organized by the BRAZILIAN NUTRITION SOCIETY - BNS - was held in the Convention Center of the Hotel Nacional, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from August 27th to September 1st, 1978.

This book is the product of the Conference on Nutrition and Human Reproduction, supported and organized by the National Insti- tutes of Child Health and Human Development, and held at the National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, Maryland, in February 1977.

I welcome the privilege of writing some words of introduction to this important book.
