Los trabajos reunidos abordan diferentes cambios por contacto en español, con perspectiva sincrónica y diacrónica y en canales comunicativos orales y escritos.
Con objeto de descifrar las lógicas más profundas de las relaciones entre los lenguajes, las tecnologías y el pensamiento, se propone una interpretación de las funciones sociales de la comunicación vista desde la óptica de las transformaciones (no solo las tecnológicas) que se han ido sucediendo a lo largo de la historia: especialmente en el siglo XIX, con los inventos de luz y sonido; en el XX, con los medios de comunicación, y en el XXI, con la plena expansión de internet, pero también se hace referencia, de manera introductoria y panorámica, a las que se dieron en la antigüedad.
